Upon dipping his hands into its waters, the axe detached immediately. As a result it became a place of worship and came to be known by sadhus as Parshuram Kund.

Every year during the Makar Sankranti festival in January, over 70,000 devotees gather to take a holy dip in the kund’s waters, believed to cleanse them of their sins. The event is accompanied by a huge fair (mela), visitors from various regions gather to enjoy this fest.

By Air
The nearest major airport is Dibrugarh, located about 200 kilometers from the holy place. It has regular flights from major cities like Guwahati, Kolkata, and Delhi. Once you’re in North East, you can hire a taxi from Taxi Nation and visit this place at your own ease. Tezu also has an airport but with less frequent flights. It is approximately 50 kilometers from Parshuram Kund.
By Train
The closest railway station is in Tinsukia known as the Tinsukia Junction, around 120 kilometers away. It is well-connected to various parts of India. From Tinsukia, you can take a taxi or bus. Another option is the Dibrugarh station, about 150 kilometers from the holy site.
By Road
From Tinsukia, Assam
Direct Route:
- Distance: Approximately 165 kilometers.
- Travel Time: About 4-5 hours by taxi or bus.
- Route: Take NH 15 towards Tezu and then follow local roads to reach Parshuram Kund.
Via Rupai:
- Route: Travel from Tinsukia to Rupai and proceed to the Dirak check gate for your Inner Line Permit (ILP). After obtaining the permit, continue towards Tezu and then to Parshuram Kund.
From Tezu, Arunachal Pradesh
Shorter Route:
- Distance: Approximately 50 kilometers.
- Travel Time: About 1-2 hours by taxi or local bus.
- Route: From Tezu, take local roads leading directly to Parshuram Kund.
Via Chowkham and Wakhro:
- Distance: Similar to the direct route but generally more comfortable.
- Travel Time: Varies based on road conditions.
- Route: This route offers an even path suitable for all types of vehicles.
Via Demwe:
- Distance: Approximately 85 kilometers.
- Travel Time: This route may be treacherous due to poor road conditions.
- Route: Travel from Tezu via Demwe through mountainous terrain.
Inner Line Permit (ILP)
Non-residents of Arunachal Pradesh must obtain an Inner Line Permit (ILP) before traveling to Parshuram Kund. Permits can be acquired at Dirak or Sunpura check gates upon entering Arunachal Pradesh.
